I have fallen in love with the colors on an ever-changing terrain, of a wild and unruly range of landscapes. I have told secrets to the wind, trading them with those who walked before me and with those whom I have yet to cross paths. I have hidden treasures, like a squirrel buries her most precious acorn, and I have discovered wisps of wisdom half covered in dirt. But it is not always pure beauty on the mountainside. I have also cried through farewells and promises of return. I have walked away time and time again, telling myself it is too painful for a human heart to love something as vast as the world, that I am ready to cozy up in one nook of it and love that tiny corner well, like so many people do. |
But as soon as it calls, I always answer. Because apologies in the form of plane tickets and blisters on my feet are the only tangible thing I have to show for such a deep felt love. And it's a love that no matter how many times I may walk away, I (and the earth) know I will always come home to it.
